Surveillance Centres

Introduction

Two Veterinary Surveillance Centres, funded by Defra, have been established at Liverpool University (Leahurst Campus) and the Royal Veterinary College (Hawkshead Campus).

These Centres receive carcase material for post-mortem examination and carry out veterinary investigation into the diseases of domestic livestock. They do not receive postal specimens for laboratory testing, these should be sent to the appropriate VLA Regional Laboratory.

Both Centres contribute surveillance data to the VLA Farmfile database.
