Campylobacter

Image of ducksWhat are campylobacters?

Campylobacters are gram-negative bacteria that are widely distributed among animals and are members of the normal gut flora in many food producing animals.

However, certain members of the campylobacter genus (especially C. jejuni, C. coli and C. fetus fetus) are pathogenic in humans.

C. venerealis (found in cattle) and C. fetus (found in cattle and sheep) are associated with cases of sporadic abortion and infertility.
