Animal Diseases 2009

The VLA International Conference - Animal Diseases 2009, took place at Royal Holloway, University of London from 2 to 4 September 2009.

The meeting was organised by the Veterinary Laboratories Agency and the conference symposia jointly organised with the:

  • Institute for Animal Health,

  • Food and Environment Research Agency,
  • Centre for Environment, Fisheries & Aquaculture Science,

Previous VLA annual conferences were closed meetings. This is the first time that a VLA conference has invited external delegates and covered a broad range of veterinary topics. We attracted over 400 delegates from 28 countries reflecting the level of interest in the topics covered over the three day event.

During the conference, Dr Simon Carpenter, from the Institute for Animal Health (IAH), was presented with the Rooker Prize.

Professor Peter Borriello, VLA Chief Executive said:

“We are delighted to have attracted so much interest from delegates and sponsors. It was a unique opportunity to establish or renew contacts with colleagues at home and abroad.

Feedback from everyone involved has been very good and we hope this will become a regular event in the veterinary calendar."
