Learning & Development at the VLA

The VLA is an Investor in People and we continue to promote the development of staff as we recognise that with a strong focus on staff development and training, both on the job and through formal courses, we are able to meet new and exciting challenges.

With the support of line managers, staff are encouraged to take responsibility for identifying their training and development needs and we provide a range of methods depending on the need.  In house training includes:

• Science and Veterinary courses covering a wide range of topics designed to develop and update the professional skills and knowledge of staff.
• A wide range of health & safety courses tailored to the needs of specific staff groups.
• Quality Assurance training programme covering relevant quality standards from basic introductions to specialist training for quality managers.

There are opportunities to gain qualifications from GCSE to postgraduate level.  Staff can also attend or present at national/international meetings and conferences, including presenting posters.  Training is delivered using a range of learning methods or a mix of methods to suit the situation.

In conjunction with a network of top ranked academic partners, VLA offers annual PhD studentships in topical animal, veterinary and public health subjects.
